Larry has played golf for 70 years and has played in most private and public courses in the metro area, played in many of the states in the USA, every course on Maui and Lanai, thanks to his daughter Sandy, who is a flight attendant with delta. His most memorable one was playing St. Andrews in Scotland. That was 22 years ago. That was one for the bucket list.
He also saw Tom Watson play golf at age 16 at the Pemday High School at Chapel Ridge Golf Course in Lee’s Summit. He says Tom "wasn’t very good", he was only kidding. Heknew Tom was destined for greatness even at that age. As ALS often does it attacks your first love first. When he first noticed he had loss of balance, falling, limited use of hands, which prevented his playing golf, but it has not prevented his love and passion for the game. He is still a member of the USGA of over 40 years and a strong supporter of First Tee program. He became involved in Kansas City Junior Golf which later became First Tee, because of Al Hoffman, the founder, whom became his mentor Al always believed in giving back to the game of golf and what better way to give back than to give back to kids.
